2 arrested for vandalising 5 vehicles at taxi stand
Chandigarh: The police arrested two persons for allegedly vandalising five vehicles at a taxi stand in Sector 32 using sticks and bricks on Saturday night. One of the accused was also involved in the shootout that took place at the same taxi stand last year. During the shootout, two people received bullet injuries.
Sector 34 police said the accused have been identified as Dharampal alias Prince, a resident of Daddumajra, and Jagtar Singh alias Kala, a resident of Mohali.
In his complaint, Rajinder Prasad, a resident of Nayagaon, Mohali, said he, along with his partners, runs a taxi stand near GMCH-32. On Friday night, he parked his cabs at the taxi stand and went home to rest. However, other taxi drivers who were present at the taxi stand informed him over the phone that three or four people came to the taxi stand and damaged five cars with sticks and stones before fleeing the spot.
Upon receiving this information, Rajinder reached the taxi stand and checked the CCTV cameras installed there. After reviewing the footage, the complainant found that the accused, Dharampal, along with Jagtar Singh and others, vandalised vehicles at the stand.
Rajinder filed a complaint at Sector 34 police station. After verifying the facts, police registered a case under the relevant sections of BNS and arrested them.
Accused Dharampal also used to operate his cab from this taxi stand, and due to some dispute with the other owners of the taxi, he was shunned from the taxi stand. Dharampal's alleged involvement also came up in the firing incident at the taxi stand in Oct 2024, in which Rajinder's brother, among two others, was injured.
Police said Dharampal had an old enmity with Rajinder over running ambulance cabs, and he also indulged in extorting money from other ambulance drivers and cab drivers in the area.
