Man gets death for raping, killing minor girl

Kalaburagi: A 28-year-old man has been given a death sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for raping and murdering a 10-year-old girl in Nimbarga police jurisdiction on July 15, 2023.
Kalaburagi district additional sessions (Pocso) court judge Yamanappa Bammanagi delivered the death sentence on Gunderao Shrimanthrao Chopade.
The girl's body was found in an open well in a village at Aland taluk in Kalaburagi district. CPI Basu Chavvan of Nimbarga police filed the chargesheet, leading to the court finding the accused guilty.
The incident occurred when the girl was walking alone from Devantagi to Javali (D) village. Chopade, who was working in his field, approached her under the pretence of conversation. He forcibly took her to a sugarcane field whilst covering her mouth. He subsequently assaulted her twice and ended her life by strangling her. He left the body until nightfall, then carried it to an open well where he disposed of it. Villagers discovered the body the following morning.
