Civic issues in Lucknow take plaints count to 750/day
Lucknow: Filthy streets, overflowing sewers and animal carcasses not taken away continue to trouble residents across Lucknow, emerging as the most pressing civic issues reported daily to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation's Command and Control Centre.
According to officials, the centre receives on average around 700 to 750 complaints daily. Of these, 200 to 300 are related to sanitation, including unclean roads and clogged drains. Another 150 to 200 complaints concern sewer problems such as overflow and pipeline leakage. An additional 150 to 200 complaints involve dead animals, which pose serious hygiene and odour problems in residential areas.
Officials claim sanitation and sewer-related problems are resolved generally within 24 hours, while dead animals are removed within 6 to 8 hours. In case of injured or sick animals—especially cows—special rescue teams along with veterinary staff are dispatched to transport them to shelters.
Though complaints come from all parts of Lucknow, old city areas report relatively more issues related to cleanliness. With increasing public awareness and publicising of helpline and authorities/officials' numbers, many citizens now call municipal officials directly. Often, a single issue is reported multiple times by different residents of the same locality, adding to the complaint count. Complaints reach LMC through various platforms such as phone calls, the Lucknow One app, the 1533 helpline, Twitter, WhatsApp, and media groups. Among these, phone calls remain the most commonly used method, reflecting the urgency as well as demand for swift redressal.
LMC Commissioner Inderjit Singh said, "We are addressing civic issues on priority and improving our response systems rapidly. As we reach effective solutions, number of complaints will subside." He agreed that sanitation remained the area needing most attention.
