Doctors’ association urges government to implement their long-pending demand

The Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) for Government Doctors has urged the Chief Minister to implement Government Order 354 relating to pay and promotions of government doctors, one of their long-pending demands.

Ahead of the debate on the demand for grants for the Health department on April 21, the association urged the State government to double the posts of government doctors and nurses to strengthen the healthcare sector.

The association said that whether it is the AIADMK regime or DMK regime, various announcements are made to improve the health sector but announcements for the welfare of doctors are yet to be issued.

Compared to the monthly salary of MBBS doctors in other States, MBBS, MD/MS and DM/MCh doctors in Tamil Nadu government service are paid ₹40,000 less. The government spends a lot on various projects in the health sector, and the association hoped that the Chief Minister would allocate ₹300 crore a year for increasing the pay of government doctors.

With the government doctors planning to start a march from Mettur to Chennai from June 11, the association requested the Chief Minister to put an end to the doctors’ struggle by announcing the implementation of GO 354 and grant of pay band-4 at 12 years of service to recognise the work of government doctors.
