Wakad, April 20, 2025: Massive traffic congestion was witnessed on Wakad Datt Mandir Road between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM today after a large speed breaker was being constructed near Costa Rica Society during peak commuting hours. The work, undertaken by a PCMC-appointed contractor, led to long traffic snarls and frustration among commuters.
Residents and motorists took to social media, tagging officials including the PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, and PCMCSarathi, questioning the logic behind carrying out such work during high-traffic hours. With hundreds of vehicles stuck and emergency access also affected, concerns about poor planning and lack of coordination were raised.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation has strongly objected to the timing of the construction and has sought an official explanation from PCMC. The Federation has urged the civic body to schedule such road work during non-peak or night hours to avoid public inconvenience.
“Carrying out road construction during evening rush hours not only disrupts traffic flow but also puts lives at risk,” a Federation spokesperson stated.
Residents are now demanding that PCMC establish clear work schedules that minimize disruption and ensure better coordination with local societies to avoid such repeat incidents in the future.
