District Collector Sumit Kumar on Saturday launched the government’s flagship Swachh Andhra-Swarna Andhra campaign in Bangarupalem mandal of Chittoor district, visiting several hamlets and inspecting sanitation and environmental-friendly initiatives.
Interacting with the villagers, the Collector underlined the importance of public participation in government schemes. “As part of the programme, we have formed special teams to carry out waste management drives to cover all panchayats, municipalties and Chittoor municipal corporation. Top priority is being given for solid waste segregation and processing,” Mr. Sumit Kumar said.
The Collector inspected a resource recovery centre at Paleru village and spoke to the Green Ambassadors. Responding to their appeal about hike in salaries and provision of insurance policies, the Collector said the ambassadors would receive ₹10,000 a month, with funding from 15th Finance Commission and general panchayat funds, with effect from April 2025.
The official further held a review meeting on overhead tank cleaning process using a high-pressure cleaning machine and said monthly cleaning should be made mandatory to ensure safe drinking water. He said strict action would be taken against the staff found to be neglecting the their duties.
The Collector inspected a cattle water trough, which was built under the NREGA scheme at Bangarupalem. He directed the panchayat officials that all the water troughs should be filled during summer to provide drinking water to the cattle. He also inspected an e-waste collection centre in the mandal, meant for recycling electronics and appliances.
Mr. Sumit Kumar inaugurated a summer water kiosk near the Mutyalamma temple and inspected the Community Health Centre in Bangarupalem.
