Dr. Shirish Valsangkar, a well-known neurosurgeon from Solapur, died by suicide on Friday evening, police confirmed.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 pm at his residence. According to officials, Dr. Valsangkar shot himself in the head with his licensed revolver inside the bathroom.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

“The exact cause behind his drastic step is still under investigation,” an official said. He further added,

“However, initial information indicates that he had been going through a period of stress in recent days.

His body has been sent for a postmortem as part of the procedure.”
