Ghaziabad: An FIR was registered against a 30-year-old woman in Modinagar for allegedly driving her husband to suicide through continuous harassment and financial demands. Mohit Tyagi, a 34-year-old employee with a media house, took the extreme step after his wife allegedly fled with jewellery given to her and filed false complaints against him and his family.
Modinagar ACP Gyan Prakash Rai said Rahul Tyagi, Mohit's brother, filed a complaint on Friday. According to it, Priyanka, who is from Sambhal, had married Mohit in Dec 2020. The relationship reportedly turned sour soon after, with Priyanka and her family allegedly making persistent demands and false accusations against Mohit and his relatives.
The situation escalated six months ago when Priyanka allegedly left for her hometown with jewellery worth several lakhs, given to her during her marriage. She subsequently filed a police complaint against Mohit in Sambhal. On April 15, around noon, Mohit received a call from Sambhal police regarding an investigation.
"Distressed, Mohit consumed poison between 5-6pm the same day. He was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a Delhi facility for advanced treatment. But he died," Rai said. Before taking the fatal step, Mohit sent text messages to his family members, expressing his helplessness and alleging that his wife's actions had driven him to suicide.
His brother Rahul revealed that Priyanka had been demanding additional jewellery from Mohit before the incident.An FIR was registered under sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 305 (theft), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of trust) of the BNS against Priyanka and her family members.
"Special teams have been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly," the ACP added.Mohit was employed at Hindustan media house as a machine operator at the time of his death.
