District Collector A. Kulothungan on Friday inspected the hamlets of Scheduled Tribe community members in Madagadipet and Nallor areas. The visit was aimed to ascertain whether the ST people residing in the area were able to obtain red ration card, community certificate and Aadhaar card as promised by the government.

The Collector also visited certain places in the Madagadipet area as part of government’s effort to identify land suitable for distribution of free house site pattas to the community members. Mr. Kulothungan said the government has identified three to four places in Puducherry for distribution of house site pattas. “We will finalise the location soon as the government was planning to distribute pattas to around 123 ST families,” the Collector said.

The Collector’s inspection was a follow up to the earlier visits undertaken by him with the Secretary to the government, A. Muthamma, to the settlements of Scheduled Tribe and Backward Tribe communities in Puducherry in November, last year. The government had conducted an outreach programme by deputing senior officers to visit the ST and BT settlements to address the grievances of the people.
