In a commendable act of administrative support, Chamarajanagar Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag helped resolve a long-standing issue faced by a visually challenged girl, enabling her to finally receive her Aadhaar card after years of struggle.

Bhagya, a native of Tammadahalli in Chamarajanagar taluk, had been unable to obtain her 12-digit Unique Identification Number due to complications related to iris scanning, a key component of biometric authentication in the Aadhaar enrolment process.

She brought up her plight during a meeting of the District Differently Abled Welfare Committee held in December 2024, detailing the difficulties she had been facing in securing the Aadhaar card, a document essential for accessing numerous government services and benefits.

Moved by her case, the Deputy Commissioner immediately directed officials to treat Ms. Bhagya’s situation as a special case and take necessary steps to facilitate her enrolment. The district administration, in coordination with the e-Governance section, identified and addressed the technical issues hindering her enrolment.

As a result of Ms. Shilpa Nag’s intervention and prompt action by the Aadhaar officials, Ms. Bhagya got her Aadhaar card. In a symbolic and touching gesture, the card was personally handed over to her by Ms. Shilpa Nag.

In addition to ensuring Aadhaar enrolment, the Deputy Commissioner also instructed officials to enrol Ms. Bhagya under the UDID (Unique Disability ID) project, which provides official disability certificates and ID cards to persons with disabilities.

Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Bhagya, a graduate, said, “I was staring at a bleak future without access to the Aadhaar card. I am happy now and feel motivated to achieve something meaningful in life.”
