A new apartment complex will be coming to Johnson City's Riverside Drive following the sale of the former Davis College.

On Thursday, April 17, former owner Adam Weitsman announced the property had been sold to Riverside Gardens, LLC owner Dave Drew for $4.5 million. Plans for the property's transition into an apartment complex have been discussed since last year, when preliminary development plans were approved by the Johnson City Village Board.

The 13-acre college originally served as a school focused on Christian-centered education before dwindling enrollment forced the college to close. In 2020, the college was sold to Weitsman, the owner of Upstate Shredding, for $3.4 million.

Weitsman will remain as a partner in the development project, with a 10% investment share.

"It's always been very important to me to find a buyer that had the ability to see the history and untapped potential of Davis College and advance a project that would benefit the community as a whole," Weitsman said. "This deal has been years in the making, and I'm so excited to help bring new life and transform this site with a developer who sees the value our region has to offer."
