Gehlot slams ED action against Gandhis as Cong stages protest
Jaipur: Following the naming of Congress functionaries Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and others in the alleged National Herald case chargesheet, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, this is a "false case" and the case being formed is completely "baseless". "If there was no financial transaction in the National Herald case, how is it a scam?" Gehlot asked.
In protest, Congress staged demonstrations outside ED offices across the country Wednesday. Many senior leaders, including Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, participated in the protest held in Jaipur.
"The ED had investigated this matter earlier and the investigating officer had given a clean chit. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Sonia Gandhi was named as accused," said Gehlot, adding that an atmosphere is being created in the country as if a major scam occurred. "These people have gone mad. The company involved in this whole matter was a non-profit making company. There was no transaction of a single new penny. No transaction occurred, so the company could not make any profit. When commercial activities cannot occur, and a non-profit company is formed, then what is the scam?" he said.
Dotasra alleged the BJP is attempting to tarnish Rahul Gandhi's image as he is raising public issues against the RSS-BJP from streets to the parliament. Congress functionaries termed this action as political vendetta.
