Doctors’ body flags long-pending demands, seeks action from Health Secretary

The Telangana Government Doctors’ Association (TGGDA) has submitted a representation to Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu urging action on several long-pending demands that they say are crucial for efficient healthcare delivery and the welfare of government doctors.

The association raised seven key issues requiring immediate redressal. Among them is the demand for conversion of the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) into a Directorate of Secondary Health Services. The association argues that such a move is essential for streamlining operations and strengthening healthcare at the secondary level.

Another concern is the transfer of professors and associate professors from peripheral medical colleges to Osmania and Gandhi medical colleges, against existing vacancies. The TGGDA has also demanded the sanction of a Peripheral Medical College Allowance. Additionally, they pressed for time-bound promotions within the Directorate of Health cadre and called for the completion of all pending promotions across the department.

The representation also challenges a recruitment proposal at the professor level, arguing that nearly 220 associate professors could be promoted by May if the government relaxes panel year norms. “By relaxing one-year associate professorship requirements set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and panel year criteria by the government, promotions can be expedited as many have completed the mandatory seven years of teaching from the assistant professor level,” the letter noted.
