Ajay Devgn and Tabu have been co-stars in several successful films, but it’s their off-screen bond that truly stands out. Having worked together in more than ten movies, their deep-rooted friendship is just as strong as their on-screen chemistry. While promoting their recent film Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha—which didn’t do as well at the box office—the duo’s friendly banter once again stole the spotlight.
A throwback video from one of the promotional interviews with Navodaya Times recently resurfaced, bringing with it laughter and fond memories. In the clip, Ajay jokingly revealed the reason behind Tabu’s single status. When asked what kind of man would suit her, Ajay quipped, “Tabu ko main chahiye, usko wo mil nahi sakta” (Tabu wants me, but she can’t have me). The remark instantly sparked laughter all around.
Tabu responded with mock disbelief, playfully nudging him. Ajay then grinned and clarified, “Matlab mere jaisa yaar. Mere jaisa aur koi duniya mein hai nahi” (I mean someone like me. But there’s no one else like me in this world).
With her signature charm, Tabu replied warmly, “Exactly, main samajh gayi meri jaan” (Exactly, I understood, my dear), and affectionately kissed his hand. She then added, “Ye aise hain toh mujhe bardasht karte hain. Kuch aur hotey toh shayad mujhe bardasht nahi kar paate” (He tolerates me because he’s like this. Someone else might not have been able to).
Reflecting further with a smile, she said, “Meri toh shaadi bhi nahi hui, tumne toh fir bhi shaadi kar li, bacche kar liye” (I’m not even married, at least you got married and had kids), gently pointing out the different directions their lives have taken.
Their bond dates all the way back to their 1994 film Vijaypath, where audiences first took notice of their dynamic pairing. Since then, they’ve shared screen space in many acclaimed films like Thakshak, Drishyam, and Drishyam 2. Although there were once rumors of a romantic link, fans now admire the honest and enduring friendship they share.
On the professional front, Tabu is set to appear in Bhooth Bangla, alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn—last seen in Azaad—has a busy year ahead with Raid 2, Son of Sardaar 2, and De De Pyaar De 2. Through thick and thin, Ajay and Tabu continue to prove that real friendship in Bollywood can stand the test of time.
