Ahmedabad: A late-night road accident claimed the life of a truck driver near Vataman Crossroads in Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad district. The accident involved a GSRTC (Gujarat State Regional Transport Corporation) bus and a private vehicle.
Maheshkumar Chavda, a GSRTC driver, drove a bus from Gondal to Nashik with conductor Ajitsinh Sarvaiya. The bus, carrying nine passengers, departed Gondal depot around 7 pm on Tuesday. After a brief stop for refreshments near a hotel in Limbdi, the bus resumed its journey and picked up reserved passengers before heading towards Bagodara.
At around 1 am on Wednesday, near Vataman Crossroads, a speeding truck rammed into the rear of the GSRTC bus. The force of the impact pushed the bus forward, causing it to collide with another private bus ahead, which then mounted the divider.
All passengers and crew in the bus disembarked safely. The truck driver was trapped inside the cabin and was unresponsive. He was later declared dead. Police said that his name was Buta Garambha, a resident of Ratanpur in Surendranagar district. None of the bus passengers or staff were injured due to the impact, police added.
Koth police registered a case of causing death by negligent driving against the truck driver and began an investigation.
