A police constable was attacked by a father-son duo allegedly under the influence of alcohol while the former was regulating traffic during Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations on Monday morning in Velachery. The duo was arrested on Tuesday and sent for judicial remand.
The arrested men are G Preethiban, 33 a cadre of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and his father C Ganesan 55. Police sources said the injured constable T Kamaraj 34, attached to the law and order wing of the Velachery police, was deployed near the Gandhi Salai stretch as crowds gathered for an event attended by Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian. The assault occurred after Kamaraj stopped the men’s motorcycle as part of routine traffic regulation. An argument broke out and the duo attacked Kamaraj, the police said.
