Suruchi pips Manu for the gold; Saurabh wins bronze

Suruchi Singh continued to assert her class as she won her second successive air pistol gold in the shooting World Cup in Lima, Peru, on Tuesday.

Fresh from her maiden World Cup gold last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the 18-year-old Suruchi beat double Olympic medallist, compatriot Manu Bhaker by 1.3 point for the gold, after shooting an impressive 582 in qualification. Qualification topper Yao Qianxun of China took bronze.

Suruchi had been phenomenal in the last National championship in December, sweeping the gold medals in the women’s, junior and youth sections.

India was on top of the medals table ahead of China, as Saurabh Chaudhary had earlier won the men’s air pistol bronze behind Hu Kai of China and Felipe Wu of Brazil. Varun Tomar placed fourth.
