Man drowns in lake in Dharmapuri

Dharmapuri: A 28-year-old man drowned in a lake in Somanalli in Dharmapuri district, on Monday evening. Fire and rescue teams retrieved his body after a 24-hour search on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as K Vignesh, 28, of Thombakarampatty. He was employed by a borewell company.
Police said Vignesh and his coworker, K Dharman, 35, also from the same village, went to bathe in the lake on Tamil New Year. "When attempting to swim to the other side of the lake, Vignesh unexpectedly drowned," said an officer from Palacode police station.
Dharman alerted the locals and Palacode police, who arrived with rescue personnel to search for Vignesh. His body was eventually retrieved after an extensive search. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Vignesh had consumed alcohol before entering the lake.
Police sent the body to Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem. A case has been registered, and further probe is on.
