YSRCP to boycott no-confidence motion on April 19: Gudivada Amarnath

Former Minister and YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president Gudivada Amarnath on Wednesday (April 16) said the party will boycott the upcoming no-confidence motion against Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari scheduled for April 19. He said the party will issue a whip to all its 58 corporators about it. He also warned that the party will take disciplinary action against the corporators who ignore the whip and attend the meeting.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, Mr. Amarnath alleged that, despite lacking the necessary numbers, the NDA had proposed a no-confidence motion against the Mayor a month ago.

Since then, the NDA leaders have been resorting to pressuring, threatening and influencing YSRCP corporators to join them. He also criticised the NDA’s motives, stating that their actions seemed to convey the idea that they do not accept a woman from the BC Yadava community as the Mayor.

He reiterated that the YSRCP stands firmly behind Ms. Hari Venkata Kumari and will not allow the no-confidence motion to succeed. The party is committed to ensuring that she continues in her role for the remaining 11 months of her term, he said.

Ms. Hari Venkata Kumari said former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy gave her the opportunity to become the Mayor, promoting the BCs.

Calling out TDP State president Palla Srinivas Rao and JSP MLA Ch. Vamsikrishna Srinivas, who belong to the Yadava community, she said the leaders must rethink their actions.

She alleged that Mr. Vamsikrishna Srinivas, who was previously with YSRCP, is still bitter over not securing the Mayor’s post. “Over the past four years, we have worked beyond caste and religious lines, solely focusing every ward in the city following the party’s principles,” she said. Former MLA Karanam Dharmasri was also present.
