Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai and party cadre on Wednesday (April 16, 2024) organised a protest against Enforcement Directorate in front of Shashtri Bhavan in Chennai after the agency filed a charge-sheet against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald Case.

Courting arrest, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said that the ED was started to clamp down on smuggling, black money and illegal money transfers and it was not meant to be used to settle scores against political rivals. “Now, the Modi government is trying to take revenge on Congress leaders who hail from a family that has sacrificed themselves for the country. We condemn this,” he said.

Mr. Selvaperunthagai said that National Herald was founded by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and was also published in Hindu and Urdu. “Young India, a not-for-profit company was created to help the National Herald. There is no transfer of money or properties, but the BJP has indulged in political vendetta. Sonia Gandhi’s sacrifices for India are unparalleled. Congress is protesting against it across India,” he said.
