Nostalgic salute to Lucknow’s great legacy
Lucknow: A cultural event ‘Bahut Yaad Aate Hain' was held at Karamat Husain Muslim Girls' PG College, Nishatganj, to honour iconic figures of the city such as publisher Munshi Nawal Kishore and ghazal queen Begum Akhtar.
Organised by social awareness group Aadaab Arz Lucknow, the event celebrated the enduring legacy of the city's artistic and literary luminaries.
Hosted by Prof Sabra Habib, the session included personal anecdotes, notably her recollections of Begum Akhtar and their meeting in Russia. Prof Habib also highlighted the importance of preserving cultural values and language. Principal Dr Huma Khwaja underscored the college's rich history, while Dr Ishrat Nauheed spoke on Urdu scholar Arif Naqvi's global recognition.
Munshi Nawal Kishore's inclusive publishing efforts—printing the Qur'an, Ramayan, and Mahabharat—were remembered as a testament to Lucknow's Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb.
The event saw participation from cultural enthusiasts, faculty, and students. Notable attendees included members of Aadaab Arz Lucknow such as Pradeep Kapoor, Rekha Kumar, Sabiha Ahmed and others, reflecting collective reverence for the city's cultural heritage.
