Jhansi: A fire broke out at the railway hospital on Wednesday morning and completely charred the operation theatre room located on the first floor. No human casualty was reported. No one was present inside the room at the time of the incident.
The fire occurred just before the commencement of regular hospital activities when smoke was noticed emanating from the operation theatre near one of the air conditioners. Within minutes, the flames spread across the operation theatre, creating panic among those present in the hospital.
The hospital staff attempted to extinguish the fire using firefighting equipment before three fire tenders arrived and managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly an hour of strenuous efforts. The entire operation theatre, including expensive equipment, was gutted.
Chief fire officer Raj Kishore Rai said that initial investigations indicated overheating of the air conditioner which had been operating for a prolonged period, resulting in a short circuit that caused the fire.
Rai further pointed out that with rising temperatures, the risk of such incidents increases, and asked to exercise caution with electric equipment, especially regarding overloading and faulty or loose electrical connections.
PRO NCR Jhansi division Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed that there were no casualties and said that a committee has been constituted to investigate the cause of the fire.
