Manoj Bajpayee signed this film for just Rs 1, but it turned out to be a massive flop after that he didn’t speak to the director for six years.

Bollywood filmmaker Hansal Mehta has given many great films and series to the industry. In a recent interview, he talked about his friendship with Manoj Bajpayee. Also, he talked about his first meeting with Anurag Kashyap. He also told how Manoj Bajpayee signed one of his films for one rupee. That film proved to be a disaster at the box office.

In an interview with the Indian Express, he said that producer RV Pandit had asked him to write a story. He was in Manoj Bajpayee’s apartment for brainstorming this story. Hansal Mehta said, “We were discussing ideas. While talking, he (Manoj Bajpayee) fell asleep. Someone opened the door. A man came… I told him Manoj bhaiya is sleeping… he said I wanted to meet you. I had seen Highway, I had gone mad, I am a big fan… I have been looking for you for a long time.”

The screenplay of the film was written in 48 hours

He further said that the person said he is an actor and writer. The person Hansal Mehta was talking about was none other than Anurag Kashyap. Hansal Mehta said that as soon as he heard the word writer, he asked if he could help him put this film on paper. Anurag Kashyap told him, “Sir, I will write it, I need 15 thousand rupees; I have three months’ rent. Hansal says that Anurag Kashyap wrote the screenplay in 48 hours because he needed money.

Hansal Mehta said that for that film Anurag Kashyap got Rs 75,000 for a 350 page script. The name of this film was Jayate. After this Hansal Mehta told that he had signed Manoj Bajpayee for one rupee for a film.

Hansal Mehta said that after Jayate, he was working on Dil Par Mat Le Yaar!! One night, he was sitting with Manoj Bajpayee after getting a little drunk. He cast Manoj Bajpayee in the film. Hansal Mehta says that he had cast Manoj Bajpayee on a signing amount of one rupee. Hansal said, “Satya had not released till then… and I had given Manoj one rupee as signing amount for that film…”

Hansal Mehta’s Dil Par Mat Le Yaar proved to be a disaster at the box office. After this film, Manoj Bajpayee and Hansal Mehta stopped talking to each other for six years. However, years later Hansal Mehta and Manoj Bajpayee came together for the film Aligarh.
