ISRO chief Narayanan opens Ambedkar birth anniversary fete

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chairman V. Narayanan inaugurated the 134th birth anniversary celebrations of B.R. Ambedkar, principal architect of the Constitution, here on Tuesday.

The ISRO chief gave away financial assistance to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe children from economically weaker sections who are studying in government schools in the district and presented merit awards to the best students at the event, organised by the All India SC/ST Employees’ Federation.

S. Murugan, chairman of the organising committee, presided over the function. Abhilash Raveendran, secretary, Kerala State SC/ST Association, welcomed the gathering. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre; M. Mohan, director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre; and E.S. Padma Kumar, director, ISRO Inertial Systems Unit; addressed the gathering.

A vehicle rally was held earlier from Ayyankali park at Vellayambalam to the State Assembly where floral tributes were paid at the statue of Ambedkar.
