Krishnagiri District All Jamaath and District Ulemas Federation organised a massive protest opposing the passing of the Waqf Amendment Act here in Krishnagiri on Monday.

Thousands of protesters, led by Indian Union Muslim League leader K. M. Kadher Moideen, slammed the BJP-led Union Government for passing the Waqf Board Amendment Bill despite the opposition parties and the Muslim community being against it.

Calling the Act a direct assault on the Constitution, Mr. Kadher Moideen said, the new legislation also affected the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who are denied the right to convert. The new legislation would strip the rights guaranteed to its citizens by the Constitution and will not stand the test of judicial scrutiny, they said.

The Legislation Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 2025 that replaced Waqf Act, 1955 has come under criticism for tampering with the protections under the Constitution guaranteeing minority rights to manage their institutions, right to equality, right to preach and profess their religion, along with the procedural safeguards guaranteed under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution.

Raising slogans to protect the Constitution, the Ulemas Federation called for the scrapping of the legislation and vowed to challenge the law in the courts.

Hosur

The Jamattul Ulama Sabai dubbing the law an outcome of a “fascist” regime, slammed the government for rejecting objections and passing the legislation.

Hundreds of protesters gathered to rally their support to the protests.
