Prisoner dies of cardiac arrest in Salem Central Prison
The deceased has been identified as M Govindaraj, of Amani Kondalampatty village in Salem district. He was arrested by Pallipalayam police in Namakkal district in connection with a murder case and was being held in judicial custody.
A prison official said, "Govindaraj was transferred to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital on Saturday after experiencing chest pain. He died early on Sunday morning, without responding to treatment."
His body was handed over to his family after a postmortem.
