Kidnap, murder case: Girl’s body handed to family, last rites performed
Hubballi: The postmortem examination of the murdered girl's body was completed on Monday, and the five-year-old's body was handed over to her family to perform last rites.
The postmortem examination was conducted at the KMC-RI mortuary in Hubballi in the presence of taluk magistrate RK Patil. The family of the deceased girl expressed outrage when the girl's body was brought home. Later, the girl's body was placed in front of the residence. Last rites were performed at the Devangpet cemetery in the city.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar told reporters that they are investigating the background of the accused. During interrogation, the accused reportedly said that he was from Patna, Bihar. The police are gathering information about the accused, his family, and friends. They are also gathering information about his past employers. Discussions with legal experts are ongoing regarding handing over of the body of the accused, who was shot while attempting to flee during spot mahazar on Sunday.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar inspected the encounter site. He inspected the shed where the accused lived near Tarihal, and looked into other details pertaining to the case.
Min Santosh Lad consoles family at KMC-RI Hospital
Earlier, labour minister Santosh Lad visited the KMC-RI mortuary in Hubballi where the deceased child's body was kept and consoled the her family members on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Lad said that the attempted rape and murder of a five-year-old child has shaken the society. "There is no information yet about the accused being a drug user. Measures will be taken to ensure the safety of women in Hubballi," he said.
Lad mentioned that sensitive areas of Hubballi and Dharwad are being identified and CCTV cameras are being installed. "Our govt has already announced compensation for the girl's family. Housing minister Zameer Ahmed has also promised to provide a house to the family of the deceased girl from the housing department. We will talk to the govt and request more compensation," he added.
