A 35-year-old man was killed in an alleged attempt to evade routine traffic checks in Balanagar on Sunday afternoon (April 13). The deceased, identified as Jossbabu, a carpenter, was riding a motorcycle when he was stopped by a traffic constable for a routine check.
According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, Jossbabu initially complied with the constable’s instructions and moved towards the left but suddenly swerved to the right. In doing so, he collided with another two-wheeler, lost his balance, and fell to the ground, where he was subsequently run over by an RTC bus approaching from behind.
The official clarified that the traffic constable involved in the incident, Gopal, who is working with the Jeedimetla traffic police, had been tested for alcohol, with results showing no traces in his system.
The Balanagar police booked a case. Following the incident, the Commissioner has directed the Special Branch and the Traffic Wing to conduct a thorough investigation. “Further action will be taken based on the findings,” he stated.
Meanwhile, as the police attempted to move the body to the hospital, a group of locals, present at the scene, attempted to attack the traffic officers. Law and order police from the local station intervened to control the situation.
