CPI(M) State committee on Sunday (April 13) expressed deep sorrow over the accident at a firecracker unit in Kailasapatnam, Kotavuratla Mandal, Anakapalli district, which resulted in the death of eight workers and left another seven seriously injured.

CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao said in a release that all the victims were migrant labourers from Samarlakota in the East Godavari district, who had come seeking work. The party demanded that the government provide a compensation of ₹1 crore to the families of each deceased worker and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.

The CPI(M) pointed out that industrial accidents occur frequently in Anakapalli district and accused the government of having failed to prevent them. He attributed the recurrence of such tragedies to lax inspections at firecracker units. The government should launch a thorough investigation into the incident and extend all necessary support to the victims’ families, he added.

In a separate release, CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna, too, demanded a comprehensive investigation into the fire accident. Expressing deep sorrow, he pointed out that despite frequent industrial accidents in Anakapalli district, the authorities failed to take concrete action. He alleged that the incidents highlight the negligence of officials.

He also demanded adequate compensation for the families of the deceased and free medical care for the injured.
