Residents of Ganga Kingston society in NIBM Annexe in Mohamadwadi were recently forced to deal with serious health concerns after the developer of the adjoining Elina Living project allegedly diverted their drainage line into Ganga Kingston’s premises. This led to a foul stench and the accumulation of sewage water within the residential complex, causing severe inconvenience to the residents.
Despite multiple requests to the developer to resolve the issue, no corrective action was taken. Frustrated by the inaction, the residents escalated the matter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which took swift action. The civic body fined the Elina Living developer ₹20,000 for leaving the drainage chamber open and causing a public health hazard.
Jaymala Dhankikar, an active resident of Ganga Kingston and a member of the NIBM Annexe Residents Forum, told Pune Pulse, “The developer broke our compound wall and allowed untreated drainage water to flow directly into our premises. It’s a major health concern, especially for children and senior citizens. Despite repeated requests, the issue remained unresolved. We were left with no option but to approach PMC.”
She further appreciated the quick response from PMC authorities. “We are thankful to PMC for taking prompt action. Their fine has sent a clear message that such irresponsible behavior will not be tolerated.”
The incident has raised serious concerns about the lack of coordination and accountability among developers and the need for stringent enforcement of civic regulations to prevent similar issues in the future.
