Salem: The govt railway police in Salem arrested a guest worker for shoving a fellow passenger out of a moving train near Bommidi railway station, leading to his death.
The railway police identified the deceased as Naveen, 35, a native of Kurumberi near Tirupattur. He was a supervisor with a private garment firm in Tirupur.
The incident occurred while he was travelling to Tirupattur from Tirupur on the Thiruvananthapuram Express train on Thursday night, a railway police officer said.
"Naveen was reportedly sitting on the steps of a coach when Bajaj Duttu, a guest worker from Jharkhand, approached him and asked him to move a bit so that he could also sit on the steps. A verbal altercation broke out between the two, during which Duttu allegedly kicked Naveen, who fell off the moving train. Naveen fell onto the tracks and was run over by the train, which was nearing Bommidi railway station. His body was dismembered after being run over," the officer said.
An eyewitness on the train immediately alerted the railway police at Salem Junction. The train was halted at Jolarpettai, from where Bajaj Duttu was taken into custody. Naveen's body was recovered from the tracks and sent to the Salem govt hospital for postmortem.
The railway police have registered a case and further investigation is on
