Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P. Geetha Jeevan inaugurated the construction of a long-pending service road in Thoothukudi at a cost of ₹94.54 lakh.

The new service road is being constructed as part of the overbridge project on Madurai-Thoothukudi road. The Minister inaugurated the work near the Thoothukudi side and Jeyaraj Road area, to facilitate smoother vehicular movement and improve connectivity.

An official from the State Highways Department said the road work, which had been delayed for nearly five years, began yesterday and the total length of the road under construction was 400 metres. The construction of the road was expected to be completed within three months. Upon completion, the road was anticipated to ease traffic flow and provide significant relief to commuters in the region.

The project aims to enhance road connectivity and ensure smoother travel for residents and commuters in Thoothukudi.
