Organisations working towards heat prevention to be felicitated in Kanpur
Kanpur: District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh will felicitate five voluntary organisations and five individuals who demonstrate exemplary work in protection against heat wave on June 21, 2025.
The DM convened a meeting with several civil society organisations, non-government organisations and office-bearers of vyapar mandals on Friday evening to discuss heat wave prevention and sought their cooperation.
He emphasised that to mitigate heat wave effects, cold shelter homes should be established in Kanpur district, similar to winter shelter homes, and water coolers should be installed at strategic locations without impeding traffic at major crossings, bustling markets, railway stations, bus stands and such. In the meeting, the district magistrate urged that to provide immediate relief to the public from summer heat wave, water coolers, cow sheds and temporary cold shelter homes should be constructed at various locations through public cooperation at main crossings and markets citywide. Singh instructed them to identify suitable locations that would not disrupt traffic flow and inform the additional municipal commissioner and additional district magistrate (finance & revenue) promptly for swift permission.
The DM also appealed to all district residents to arrange water facilities for animals and birds on their rooftops or outside their houses considering the heat.
Advising residents, he suggested maintaining hydration even without thirst, consuming cooling fruits and beverages, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat, and carrying umbrellas, towels, and water bottles when venturing out. During heat waves, particular attention should be given to ill persons, elderly, children and pregnant women.
