Pb cops intensify war on drugs, over 5K held in 42 days
Chandigarh: As part of its ongoing war against drugs under "Yudh Nashian Virudh" campaign, the Punjab police on Friday arrested 109 drug smugglers and seized 2.9 kg of heroin, 1.6 kg of opium, 350 kg of poppy husk, and ₹26,220 in drug money. With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested rose to 5,770 in just 42 days.
The state-level operation was carried out on the directions of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, and executed simultaneously across all 28 police districts. Sharing details of the crackdown, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that over 200 police teams, comprising more than 1,300 personnel and led by 97 gazetted officers, conducted coordinated raids at 518 locations throughout the state. A total of 73 FIRs were registered, and 569 suspicious individuals were checked during the day-long operation.
The Special DGP further informed that under the state govt's three-pronged strategy—Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP)—the Punjab police also motivated four individuals to voluntarily undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment as part of its preventive outreach.
