Tables turn in Delhi theft: Robber beaten to death by victim and associates
New Delhi: Two armed robbers found themselves outsmarted and overpowered in northeast Delhi by their intended victim and his associates. As the thieves prepared to close in on their target, little did they expect resistance and a dramatic turn of events.
As the robbers moved in, the victim and his friends retaliated, managing to overpower them. In a swift reversal of roles, the group took one of the robbers into custody, while the other fled. The tables turned and the captive robber was allegedly beaten by the men and later succumbed to his injuries, prompting a homicide investigation.
Police said, after the incident, the accused individuals fled the scene. Within 48 hours, however, police tracked them down and arrested them in Haridwar.
Key individuals in the case have been identified as Nitin Kumar, a 21-year-old auto driver from Jagat Puri, Delhi; Sonu, 21, and Arjun Kumar, 22, both water supply shop workers from Salawa, Meerut; and Shantanu, 21, a farmer from Barwala, Baghpat.
DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam confirmed the recovery of crucial evidence, including an auto-rickshaw used during the crime, the deceased's mobile phone, and the clothes worn by the suspects at the time of the incident.
Following the assault, the four reportedly fled via Gang Nahar Road to Meerut, then travelled to Barwala in Baghpat. From there, they took a train from Bawali station to Saharanpur, eventually making their way to Haridwar, police said.
