AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday (April 11, 2025) challenged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to move a resolution in the State Assembly to condemn the Congress government in Karnataka and Left government in Kerala over the inter-State water disputes.
In a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami criticised the alleged deterioration of law and order in Tamil Nadu, movement of illegal drugs, and issues pertaining to women safety, among others. “Mr. Stalin realises his faults and that is why he has been staging dramas to divert attention from these issues.”
Referring to resolutions moved and adopted recently by the DMK government over various issues, he questioned as to why it has not come forward to move a resolution on Tamil Nadu’s rights over Cauvery river, and further asked if loyalty was preventing Mr. Stalin to do so.
Recalling Mr. Stalin’s meetings with Karnataka Chief Minister and his deputy D.K Shiavkumar on various occasions, Mr. Palaniswami asked if the CM had spoken to them about the Cauvery issue even once. He also criticised Mr. Stalin’s reported silence over the Karnataka CM’s statement that the proposal of Mekedatu dam would, in fact, benefit Tamil Nadu.
Despite sharing dais and shaking hands with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on various occasions, Mr. Stalin did not place the demand asserting Tamil Nadu’s rights over Mullaiperiyar dam, Mr. Palaniswami charged.
The former CM also accused the DMK of being “selfish” by getting many berths in the Union Cabinet of the Congress government when several Tamils were being killed in neighbouring Sri Lanka. He also accused the DMK of “surrendering” to the Congress government over the 2G issue.
“Wasn’t Gandhi Selvan the Union Minister of State [in the Union Health Ministry] who introduced the NEET during the Congress-led alliance government?” Mr. Palaniswami asked. With such a past, the DMK had no right to criticise the AIADMK, he charged.
