Fisher cheated in sale of boat
Udupi: An individual filed a complaint against two people for allegedly deceiving him by failing to pay for his fishing vessel. The accused were charged with breach of trust and fraud, and subsequently threatening the complainant's life.
Complainant Dinesh from Uppunda village in Byndoor taluk stated that he owned a fishing purse seine boat named ‘Trishula' and was engaged in fishing in the Malpe area. Due to financial difficulties, Dinesh sold the vessel to Kiran Anand Harikanth and Manjunath Kayakini from Murdeshwar, Uttara Kannada district, for Rs 1.2 crore.
After handing over several post-dated cheques, the accused took possession of the boat, and Kiran started using it for fishing. However, the complainant received only Rs 50 lakh, and three cheques were returned from the bank due to insufficient funds in the accounts of the accused. Repeated requests by the complainant did not yield results, and the accused were not ready to return the boat either.
The complainant alleged that he and his father were assaulted by the accused in Bhatkal in Jan. A private complaint was filed in the court, and accordingly Malpe police registered a case, police said.
