Collector C. Dinesh Kumar inaugurated a vegetable processing private venture at Pochampalli here, under the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board.

The venture, Vendum, facilitated under the Tamil Nadu Supply Chain Management scheme, is a primary processing centre of vegetables catering to the hotel segment.

Earlier, Mr. Dinesh Kumar toured through the entire processing line of the vegetables before they reach the frozen state for despatch.

The vegetable processing chain collects 14 different vegetables primarily used by the hotel segment – starting with potatoes, onions, shallots, chilly lemon, ginger, beets, beans , cauliflower, carrot, coconut, among others.

These vegetables are washed, and diced to 10mm sizes. The chopped vegetables are processed and stored using the Individual Quick Freeze (IQF) technology. The chopped vegetables are first frozen under minus 35 degrees, packed in 5 kg bags and further stored under minus 18 degrees in a containor. These are sold at this temperature to the customers, in small container boxes, in which the temperature is maintained for upto 24 hours.

The facility seeks to cater to the farmers within 60 km of Pochampalli by procuring vegetables from them.
