Joyous processions, devotional fervour mark Mahavir Jayanti
Nagpur: Jains across Nagpur came together on Thursday to celebrate Bhagwan Mahavir's 2623rd birth anniversary. The Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Mahotsava was marked by colourful processions, early morning ‘prabhat pheris,' religious discourses, and multiple community service.
The central event of the day was a grand procession organised jointly by Shri Digambar Jain Parivar Mandir Trust, Itwari, and Sakal Jain Samaj, Nagpur, which started from the Digambar Jain Parivar Mandir in Itwari.
The rally witnessed the presence of Niryapak Shraman Veersagarji Maharaj Sangh and Nishkam-Mati Mataji Sangh, who led the devotees with spiritual chants. The highlight of the procession was a magnificent 121-foot-tall flag and beautifully decorated tableau (jhankis) depicting scenes from Bhagwan Mahavir's life and teachings. Flower showers and vibrant decorations adorned the route, creating a festive and a very divine atmosphere.
Earlier in the morning, a ‘prabhat pheri' was taken out from Shri Mahavir Digambar Jain Mandir, Mahavir Nagar, under the guidance of temple president Chandrakant Vekhandey and secretary Prakash Marwadkar. The rally, with men, women, and children participating, moved through Ganesh Nagar, Great Nag Road, Mayur Mangal Karyalaya, and Mahavir Nagar, spreading the message of ahimsa (non-violence) and shanti (peace).
A beautifully adorned palanquin carrying the idol of Bhagwan Mahavir led the Prabhat Pheri, and it was warmly welcomed by residents along the route, who performed pooja at their doorsteps. Nitin Nakhate, national general secretary of Akhil Digambar Jain Saitwal Sanstha, performed the pooja of the idol during the rally.
At the temple, the ceremonial ‘Janmabhishek' of Bhagwan Mahavir's idol was performed with great devotion. The Shanti Mantra Abhishek was conducted by Santosh Panjrekar, followed by the first abhishek using 108 kalashas by Sunil Nakhate, Prafull Marwadkar, Virendra Fuladi, and Jainendra Jain.
Pulak Manch Parivar, Mahavir Ward Nagpur presented a special tableau on Ahimsa and life of Bhagwan Mahavir. Similarly, Akhil Digambar Jain Saitwal Sanstha, showcased a cradle tableau of baby Mahavir. These creative displays drew crowds & spread awareness about Jain values.
