PM to open newly-built Shastri Ghat in city today
Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed ghat named after former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri near his ancestral home in Ramnagar during his visit to Kashi on Friday.
Shastri Ghat, constructed by the Yogi govt, is equipped with modern facilities for visitors and features a heritage look using Chunar stones. Eralier, the BJP govt renovated his residence in Ramnagar into a museum. In honour of the former Prime Minister, the Yogi govt built a well-equipped pucca ghat along the Ganga near his home in Ramnagar. According to the project manager of Uttar Pradesh Projects Corporation Limited, special attention was given to the heritage appearance of Shastri Ghat to match the architecture of the nearby historical forts and buildings. The construction, costing approximately Rs 10.55 crore, includes heritage lighting and greenery.
The official said that the ghat, Located near Ramnagar Fort of Kashi Naresh, is about 130 metre long and offers a parking site, stairs, and ramps for the disabled and elderly. Chunar stones similar to those of the fort have been used in construction of the ghat. This development is expected to increase the number of tourists across the Ganges, he added.
