Bhise family refuses to take Rs5 lakh offered by Shinde, to meet Dy CM next week to seek strict action against ‘responsible’ doctor & hospital
Pune: The family of Tanisha alias Ishwari Bhise on Wednesday refused to accept Rs5 lakh offered by deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde following her death after Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital allegedly denied her treatment and requested his emissary to ensure that a case of culpable homicide was registered against the "responsible" doctor and the health hub's authorities.
Mangesh Chivate, the officer on special duty (OSD) to Shinde, met the Bhise family on Wednesday, when the latter performed rituals in memory of Tanisha. Chivate said, "It was quite unfortunate that we met the family for such a sad reason. On behalf of the deputy chief minister, we offered the family monetary help of Rs 5 lakh, but they refused it in a dignified manner."
Instead of accepting monetary help, the Bhise family requested a meeting with Shinde. "The family will be meeting the deputy chief minister next week. During our meeting, they urged the state govt to register a case of culpable homicide against the doctor(s) and the hospital management responsible for denying treatment to Tanisha, resulting in her death," Chivate said.
Bhise had gone to Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital for treatment on March 28. After her relatives were allegedly told to deposit Rs10 lakh for her treatment, she was shifted to Surya Hospital. Bhise delivered twins there on March 29, but her condition deteriorated post-delivery. She was then taken to Manipal hospital, where she passed away on March 31.
According to the family, before Shinde, cabinet minister Chandrakant Patil had offered them Rs1 lakh. They refused it also.
Swapnil Nahar, a close friend of the Bhise family, told TOI, "Justice for Tanisha is more important than money for her family. During the meeting with the deputy chief minister's team, the family demanded suspension of the doctor's licence who refused her treatment. We are also demanding action against the hospital authorities who leaked personal information about the family.
