45th Standing Fire Advisory Council meeting begins in Hyderabad

The 45th three-day meeting of the Standing Fire Advisory Council (SFAC) began in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The three-day event will bring together senior officers from State and Union Territory Fire Services departments, along with representatives from key central agencies. The venue also featured stalls displaying the latest fire and rescue equipment.

Y. Nagi Reddy, Director General of Fire Services, Telangana, along with other senior officers of the Telangana Fire Department, participated in the meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Vivek Srivastava, Director General Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards, Ministry of Home Affairs. Deliberations included a review of reports submitted by previous SFAC committees. Key discussions revolved around fire services modernisation, training, and resource management across States and Union Territories.

The event has 71 delegates representing fire services from across the country. Representatives from agencies such as the Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were also present.

The SFAC, constituted under the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1956, plays a pivotal role in policy planning, modernisation, and training related to fire services across the country. This is the fourth time Hyderabad is hosting the SFAC meeting, the previous ones being in 1978, 1997, and 2005.
