Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Friday ordered a vigilance inquiry into the construction of government-run schools after several schools in Palam complained of waterlogging in the area and leakages in the classrooms.

“I visited a school where the principal complained to me about the flood-like situation inside the school building, which was built by the previous government,” Mr. Singh said in a press conference. “I have ordered a probe into this, and all other schools that have been constructed by the previous government,” he added.

The Ministe said the vigilance investigation would involve looking at the aspects of the tender awarded, the maintenance contracts and other details of the work executed at the time.

Responding to the probe, the Aam Aadmi Party in a statement said, “There have already been countless inquiries, all of which have led nowhere. Let them carry out the 101st—this too will end in nothing. If only they put the same energy into improving government schools, real change might actually happen.”
