BJP’s protest is against Modi govt: Sowmya
Udupi: Karnataka State Mahila Congress president Sowmya Reddy said that Karnataka BJP functionaries are essentially protesting against their own party's central govt's decisions through the Janaakrosha Yatre initiative.
During a demonstration organised by the Udupi District Mahila Congress on Friday, Sowmya Reddy highlighted that while the BJP-led central govt has contributed to rising prices affecting citizens, state BJP leaders continue to criticise the Congress administration in Karnataka. She emphasised that their Janaakrosha Yatre effectively stands as a protest against their own central govt's policies.
Further, she elaborated that during the UPA govt's tenure, LPG cylinders were available at Rs 400. "Under the BJP regime, the price increased to Rs 1,000. The price of gold increased from Rs 5,000/g to over Rs 9,000/g. Mobile phone prices surged from Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000. Diesel and petrol prices also went up. Hence, the BJP's protest against price rise is against their own central govt," she said.
Mahila Congress workers displayed empty LPG cylinders and raised slogans against the central govt and BJP MPs. Former urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, District Mahila Congress president Geetha Wagle, and party leader Uday Kumar Shetty Muniyal were present.
Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress held a protest against the BJP govt at the Centre, condemning the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG, in Mangaluru on Friday.
