The people of Kanniyakumari district are showing interest in visiting government hospitals for treatment, said Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian at the inaugural event of the newly constructed ‘pay ward’ at a cost of ₹1.22 crore at the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College and Hospital (KKGMCH) campus in Asaripallam on Thursday.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister said that, the construction was currently underway for 50-bedded Critical Care Unit at a cost of ₹20 crore, and radiotherapy building at a cost of ₹4 crore at KKGMCH. Additionally various new works have been initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at a cost of ₹90 lakh at the government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital in Nagercoil including the construction of a ₹1,735 sq. feet facility at a cost of ₹90 lakh to accommodate 100 patient attenders.
He also announced the establishment of an Integrated Maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care unit at KKGMCH at a cost of ₹40. 28 crore.
Mr. Subramanian noted that since the inauguration of the KKGMCH, it has been functioning as one of the renowned medical college hospitals in Tamil Nadu. Spanning across 100 acres of greenery, the hospital provides a serene and peaceful environment that contributes to patients mental well being and comfort.
He further added that after during the tenure of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin the number of patients visiting the KKGMCH has increased. The numbers increased from 1,200 to 1,300 to 2,500 now. Alongside this growth, the hospital’s facilities have also been substantially upgraded.
At the event, the Minister also inaugurated Sub Health centres, Block Hospital Buildings and Urban Sub Health Centres across various parts of the district.
Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena, Corporation Mayor R. Mahesh, KKGMCH Dean V. Ramalakshmi, Legislative Assembly Member Mano Thangaraj, and other officials were present at the event.
