UP announces 2 percentage point hike in Dearness Allowance of state govt staff
LUCKNOW: The UP govt on Wednesday announced a 2 percentage point hike in Dearness Allowance for state govt employees with effect from Jan 1. With this, the DA has been raised from 53% to 55%.

The increment will benefit around 16 lakh employees. CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated employees through a message on social media platform ‘X'.
"The protection of the interest of state employees is our top priority. In line with that, UP Govt today decided to increase the Dearness Allowance of state govt employees from 53% to 55%, effective from Jan 1, 2025. This decision will benefit approximately 16 lakh employees. Congratulations to all of you." The announcement comes two weeks after the Union Cabinet decided to increase the DA of central govt employee from 53% to 55%, as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.
The DA is usually revised twice a year for both central and state govt employees, in Jan and then in July.
A govt spokesperson said the arrears would be issued with the April 2025 salary in May.
"The additional burden of the increment will be Rs 107 crore on the state exchequer while the arrears will amount to Rs 193 crore. For employees under the Old Pension Scheme, Rs 129 crore will be deposited in their general provident fund accounts," said the spokesperson.
The move will benefit state govt employees, employees of aided educational and technical educational institutes, employees of urban local bodies etc.
