Ranchi: To expand vocational education and open up new employment avenues for youth, the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) will introduce four new vocational trades in govt schools from the upcoming academic session 2025-26. The new trades include handicrafts and carpets, telecom, logistics, and food processing, aimed at providing market-relevant skills and hands-on training.
With it, the total number of vocational subjects offered in state-run schools will rise to 15. Currently, 11 trades such as agriculture, apparel, automotive, beauty and wellness, electronics and hardware, health, IT and ITES, media and entertainment, multi-skilling, retail, and tourism are being taught in the govt schools.
The vocational education programme, running from Classes IX to XII, focuses on skill development, practical training, and career readiness.
State project director, Shashi Ranjan said, "The govt is integrating vocational education with general studies to ensure that students are equipped with real-world skills and better employment options."
In the academic year 2024-25, approximately 1.65 lakh students underwent vocational training across the state, officials said.
Schools of excellence and block-level Adarsh Vidyalayas are also included in this initiative.
