Fugitive drug convict held from MP
Ahmedabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in a joint operation with Gujarat Police, arrested a drug convict who had been evading authorities since the Supreme Court upheld his conviction last year.
Anwar Khan Pathan, who was found guilty in a 2003 heroin seizure case, was arrested from Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. He has been transferred to Nadiad jail to serve his remaining sentence.
Pathan and co-accused Firdaus Khan Pathan were initially arrested by NCB's Ahmedabad Zonal Unit in Jan 2003 for possessing 2.03kg of heroin. Both were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by the trial court, a verdict later upheld by the Gujarat high court.
Though the SC granted them bail in 2010, it upheld Anwar Khan Pathan's conviction in 2024 while acquitting the second accused.
Despite the court's order to surrender, Pathan went into hiding.
