After checking in advance if the chargers were free using the Zeon app, we first stopped at Kolar Aaradhya Grand Zeon dual gun 60 kW chargers. After an hour, we had finished breakfast and also charged our car to 95%. There are now 8 chargers available within 4 km of each other in Kolar, so there were no cars waiting or even charging.
We left for Hassan after breakfast and took the lovely Satellite Ring Road from Hosakote to Nelamangala, completely circumventing Bangalore traffic.
We reached Hotel Sky Birds Hassan, where there are 6 Zeon high-speed charging guns. I could utilize the ZS's 70 kWh charging capacity here. There was also a BMW i7 charging at the 200 kW charging gun. We hit 95% in about an hour and reached Sringeri with plenty of charge remaining.
Our homestay provided us with a 16A plug for free to charge the car.
On our return, we arrived at Sky Birds with a reasonable charge and managed to charge our car to 95% in 45 minutes. However, after about 35 km, we realized that one of us had dropped our cell phone near Sky Birds. Luckily, a truck driver had picked it up, answered our call, and agreed to return it to us. This led to us having to drive back some of the way, and this meant we could not make it to Kolar without charging. We realized that where we had to wait for the truck driver was another 60 kW Gleeda charger, which was a godsend. We charged our car for the 20-odd minutes while waiting for the truck driver to arrive.
This meant we could make it to Kolar without range anxiety. At Aaradhya, the charger was blocked by a non-EV, and it turned out it was the restaurant owner's car. He moved his car within 5 minutes, and we charged for a little more than one hour to 95%.
This gave us enough charge to return without issues. We managed an overall efficiency of 6.5 km/kWh. The sun was blazing down for most of the trip, and the AC was working overtime to cool the cabin with 4 occupants and a full boot.
Overall, we are incredibly delighted to see the number of chargers available compared to just two years ago.
We are planning a trip from Chennai to Kumarakom next month, and we're definitely taking our EV.
India has come a long way, and with the growth of EV sales, the chargers seem to have kept up.
