The Ernakulam Rural police seized 123 grams of suspected MDMA from two passengers aboard separate inter-State buses on Wednesday (April 9, 2025).
The arrested are Midhun, 35, of Chowara, and Alwyn Francis, 19, of Alappuzha. The District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) seized 90 grams and 33 grams of suspected MDMA from them, respectively. The inspection was carried out based on a tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena.
The accused were travelling in two buses from Bengaluru to Ernakulam. The suspected drug was allegedly found hidden inside Alwyn’s shoes. The bus he was in was intercepted along the national highway at Angamaly. Midhun had allegedly hidden the contraband in his shoulder bag, which was seized after the bus was intercepted along the national highway at Athani. The MDMA was worth several lakhs of rupees, the police claimed.
The police have intensified vehicle checks in the wake of the incidents.
